How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate boost and fuel. It also sends an indication to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain stretching or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test because there are various pins on the connector, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. If you are having problems with this part, check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector, the 3 drenched with gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but without success. The car can start when the G28 is unplugged and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has more info the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars but the actual pressure is zero.

3. Fuel Pump
